Thanks for the review. I bought the 1723S towers after seeing your review of those towers. I then upgraded to the 1723 towers and I’m very happy with their sound, including their soundstage, dynamics and smooth sound. I can attest to the build quality and the weight. I love the grills with kids around. Best grills I’ve seen. I Have in black satin. They look like the monoliths from 2001: A Space Odyssey and they don’t reflect light and show fingerprints like gloss. I bi-wire them but didn’t really notice an audible difference but I had the Audioquest cables, so I use them. I did end up adding a pair of SVS SB1000 Pro subs because I’m a bass head and it did add to the low end. Their customer service is excellent. I highly recommend. Thanks James for going above and beyond for the review. Rock on!

I have had these speakers for almost 5 years now and I really like them a lot. I power them with NAD C658A and Rotel RB-1572 and that is a great combo. Almost three years ago a added two SVS PC-4000 so I X-over the speakers at 80hz since the NAD doesn't have a really advanced bass management system and this gave the best quality bass in my living room.

Yes, the 1723 Towers are not only awesome, but they are a value play. I bought them last November before the price increase. Arendal just announced another price increase. I'm driving them with a Bottlehead Moreplay preamp and a First Watt F4 clone, both of which I built. I'm probably driving 30 watts per channel into that 4 ohm load.....enough power to raise the ceiling in my 12' x 26' listening space. I prefer the 1723s to my Focal 1023Be towers and my Tannoy Turnburys, both of which cost more than twice what I paid for the 1723s. Arendal has also announced a new speaker line, the 1528, which will be a higher priced, even bigger speaker. If you need a pair of towers, I don't know of anything that comes close for the price.

Hi guys, thanks for the great video, I have the 1723 monitors using them for with a subwoofer for home theater, the guys At Arendal recommended I plug both ports to let my subwoofer handle the low bass. I do use arc room correction. Should I unplug any ports?
@jameslarson22772 дня назад +1
Depending on the crossover frequency to the sub, it probably doesn't matter if the ports are plugged or sealed. The bandwidth should be so heavily filtered that ports shuoldn't be producing much sound anyway. However, if you are using an abnormally low crossover frequency, like below 80Hz, its probably a good idea to have the ports sealed.
@hotdog92623 дня назад
sealing it up would likely be optimal for adding subs. xover at 60-70hz. the s version would be more a more natural fit for this though

The tweeters in the 1723 monitor thx begin to drop off ,presumably due to overheating, after running a few compression tests in one of the reviews here on RUclips. Do these use the same tweeters as the monitors and do they exhibit the same behaviour ?
@Audioholics День назад +1
I never heard of this being a problem in any of James Larson's tests for any Arendal products. The big advantage of these speakers is high dynamic range.
@MrBonger88День назад
@@Audioholics if you have a look at Jonathan VonEngeln review from about 7 months ago, he’s tests showed the tweeters dropping off after repeated compression runs in REW which were below THX spl levels. The results were repeatable. Maybe both of the speakers were defective but what are the odds of that
@Audioholics День назад +2
@MrBonger88 it's possible the test signal tripped a resettable PTC. Continuous signals do not represent actual program material, and that's not how THX does certification testing.
@MrBonger88День назад
@@AudioholicsPossibly yes. for what it’s worth Arendal was able to recreate the compression but they didn’t specify at what spl. I think his example started at around 10-12 kHz at 95 dB sweep. Great review James! Thanks Gene and Audioholics for sending Hugo to help James lift those up and down!
My question is: what am I giving up with the 1723s vs the Perlisten R7ts? Seriously. I'm certain the R7t has smoother FR and outputs a little cleaner but in a normal listening/living room where music and movies are 50% and TV watching is the other 50%, am I making a bigger compromise than roughly $6K (MSRP.) I'm curious with dealer incentives, is the R7t a "no brainer" over the 1723s or is it splitting hairs? I can get a pair of white R7t for about $7500. OR do I get the 1723 + a sub and live happy ever after?
p.s. James, as someone who had spine fusion and is staring 50 in the face, DO NOT be ashamed of not wanting to lift such things! I'm with ya man! NO judgement here! Gene, shame on you.... 🤣😂🤣(But thanks! #guiltypleasure....)@jameslarson22773 дня назад +4
Perlisten is certainly a step above. Better directivity control, much more neutral response, even better build quality, and a more sophisticated design overall. If you can get the R7ts for not much more than the 1723 Towers, you should do so. I say this as a big fan of the 1723 Towers. The MSRP of the Perlisten towers is much higher for good reason. We have a review of the R7ts, you might want to check it out if you haven't already.

Comparing the scorecards of these and the SVS evo pinnacles, it looks pretty close. I wish SVS had satin finishes, but their higher score on treble smoothness and their comparable imaging score (without having to toe them in extremely, which looks odd in a living room to me), keeps them ahead of the Arendals on my list. Does that sound reasonable? I’m trying to decide which to buy. Sure wish I could A/B them! James seems to prefer the Arendals.
@jameslarson22773 дня назад +2
They are both good speakers. The SVS speakers have a bit more bass in their response, but that is easy to EQ if you prefer a more neutral presentation. I would give a slight edge to the Arendals IF you use a time-intensity trading type positioning for high precision imaging (few people would want their speakers angled like this) and also their higher build quality. However, I could totally understand someone who might lean toward the SVS speakers.

@Cowplunk2 дня назад
I agree with your comments on biamping, but it's not useless. You could power the tweeter with a low power tube amp for some extra sweetness if you're into that type of thing. Also, I would totally run these sealed for 2 channel music, and perhaps boost the bass a little with EQ, because I like my bass as tight as a gnat's ass for fast punk and metal.
@Audioholics 2 дня назад
Then just get the 1723 Monitors and 2 sealed subs rather than killing the dynamic range of the bass in such a large tower.
@Cowplunk2 дня назад
@@Audioholics Well I already thought about that, a lot. The problem with those monster monitors is that they will require monstrous stands or tables to get the tweeters near ear level. None of the stands I see for sale look wide enough to prevent them from toppling. What to do? Custom stands? Custom sub enclosures? No matter how I game it out, it always ends up costing a lot more than the towers, which are already at the limit of my budget.

Both are so good. I would say if you want a wider dispersion type presentation and intend to high-pass the speakers from subs, get the Philharmonics. The Philharmonics will have a wider soundstage, but the Arendals can have a more precise soundstage. The Philharmonics will have a more balanced tonality over a wider listening area and are generally more accurate. The Arendals can have a balanced tonality, but you have to position them correctly for that. The Arendals have deeper bass and more headroom in bass frequencies. The Arenda's also have superior build quality.

Some would say that's overkill just for surround speakers but those people are fools. Biamping the fronts because why not. Put all of them on 1" thick travertine plinths, and put those on top of those rubber/cork absorbtion pads. I feel like that's all the isolation you need, even for hardwood floors. I use an Integra DRX-8.4 AVR and its powerful enough that I don't feel a need for separate amps. The whole system sounds fantastic, and amazes everyone who comes over to hear it.
