This guide will show you how to unlock and complete The Last Chapter in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Find out what the final adventures of Eivor include and watch all the cinematics!
What is The Last Chapter
The Last Chapter is free story content, added to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with Update 1.6.2. This is the last bit of Eivor’s story and serves as a conclusion to his/her epic adventure.
You will travel across England once more to talk to old friends and allies – NPCs that you previously met on your journey. You will even travel back to Norway, where everything started for Eivor.
The Last Chapter consists of a few quick missions. You travel to different regions of England and Norway, talk to NPCs that you played with during the story progression of the game, remember the “good old times” and reveal to them that you are going away to explore the vast world, this time for good.
How to unlock The Last Chapter Story
To unlock the chapter, you have to complete the full story of the base game. The Last Chapter does not require you to own or play the expansions and any other story DLCs.
Here is an overview of the requirements to unlock The Last Chapter story arc.
Complete the Main Story of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
This includes all regions of England with all story arcs for each one of them. In each region of England you have one main story arc and in some cases some additional optional objectives. As long as you stick to the main mission for the region and complete all of them, you will have this requirement covered.
Complete the Dream stories in Asgard and Jotunheim
The two story arcs in the dream worlds of Asgard and Jotunheim start from Valka’s hut in your settlement Ravensthorpe. If you stick to the main mission in these new regions, you should be done with them relatively soon.
Upgrade Ravensthorpe to Level 5
By the time you complete the first two objectives, it is highly likely that you will also have accumulated enough resources and experience to upgrade Ravensthorpe to at least Level 4. If you need help, consult with the Ravensthorpe Settlement Guide.
Defeat all targets in the Order of the Ancients
This is the most tedious and challenging requirement. To complete it, you have to find, reveal and defeat all targets in the table and reveal who the leader of the order is. This is also largely dependent on simply playing the game and progressing through the story.
How to Start The Last Chapter
The Last Chapter starts with a quest called “Last Goodbyes”. You will get it automatically in your mission tracker after you have covered all the previously mentioned requirements.
The moment you are eligible for The Last Chapter story arc, you will get the usual notification on the left side of your screen.
Every segment that follows below has a video attached. These are the cinematic scenes that play when Eivor triggers the Memory Fragments.
Complete the “Last Goodbyes” quest
Head to the river south of Ravensthorpe and find the log on the banks of the other side, opposite the village. Sit (Interact) on the log and watch a cinematic revealing a conversation between Eivor and Odin.
I can’t say if this was a bug or intended as I only play Male Eivor. In this scene Odin appeared in the shape of my character Eivor, wearing my current outfit. Odin spoke to a female Eivor.
While the two characters are observing Ravensthorpe, Basim appears on the hill behind them. He is dressed in the same modern-day clothes as we last saw him. Yeah, it’s been a long time since we saw Basim in the game.
Basim uses the Animus to progress through Eivor’s timeline and see what their fate is.
After this cinematic, you will complete Last Goodbyes. Four new quests will appear in your log. Each one asking you to visit a different part of the world and talk to some of Eivor’s old friends. Three of these will take you to England, the fourth one leads you back to Norway.
It doesn’t matter in which order you complete these quests, but I recommend leaving Norway for last. It is more dramatic and nostalgic this way.
You will get four memory fragments. These items will be placed in your inventory, near the bottom of your bag. You can click to open them to reveal a unique image hinting at where to go to activate this memory fragment.
Each of the four new quests you got will produce a conversation between Eivor and NPCs from the game’s narrative. You can go directly to the locations or use the images as hints. Up to you. Or, you can just keep reading and I will tell you not only where exactly to go, but what happens in these cinematics.
As you may have noticed, you get five memory fragments. One of them is currently corrupted and not showing an exact location. You need to first do the other four memories. In other words, do these four quests:
- Complete Fare Thee Well, Young Eagle
- Complete Fare Thee Well, Aelfred Rex
- Complete Fare Thee Well, Aethelstan
- Complete Fare Thee Well, King Fair-Hair
Complete Fare Thee Well, Young Eagle
This mission tasks you to find and synch the memory fragment in Ravensthorpe. The image that you get from the memory fragment item shows you the Assassin’s Bureau building in the settlement.
The Fragment is at the top of the hill overlooking the Assassin’s Bureau building, just next to the big old tree.
This future memory of Eivor reveals a conversation with Hytham during which you learn a little more about his past and origins.
Complete Fare Thee Well, Aelfred Rex
The image for this one hints at the Old Minster in Wessex’s capital city.
The Memory Fragment is actually on the roof of the wall surrounding the yard of The Old Minster.
In this future memory for Eivor, Basic overlooks a conversation between Eivor and King Alefred. The king demands Eivor’s allegiance. Not to his crown, but to Christ, and the Order. Naturally, Eivor refuses.
Complete Fare Thee Well, Aethelstan
This one takes you up north to East Anglia. Near the Wensum’s river, in Northwic. The image in your inventory shows the ship in front of the longhouse in the middle of the town.
The Memory Fragment is on the roof of the Longhouse, overlooking the biking boat.
The cinematic meets Eivor with Guthrum, who has become a Christian. He has forged a lasting peace with King Aelfred. He even attempts to convince Eivor to accept the new fate, but Eivor refuses.
Complete Fare Thee Well, King Fair-Hair
It doesn’t have to be the last, but I enjoy these mini-stories the most in this order and I suggest that if you do them for yourself, you leave the Hordafylke visit for last.
When you get to Alrekstad, head to the Longhouse to the north.
The Memory Fragment for this future memory is sitting right at the entrance to the Longhouse.
Sigurd and King Harald welcome Eivor back home in this cinematic. They invite Eivor to join them for a journey to Iceland to help their friend Ingolfr there. Eivor, however, refuses and reveals his plans to leave England and Norway in pursuit of new challenges.
This will complete the four mini quests, part of The Last Chapter. Remember that fifth Fragment image you had in your inventory? Now it is clearly visible.
Complete Fare Thee Well, My Ravens
This quest is given to you after you complete the previous four as I described above. The fifth Memory Fragment Image is now clear and you can see that it points to Ravensthorpe’s docks.
Eivor’s journey in England (and in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) ends where it began – at the docs. The final Memory Fragment is at the top of the Barracks building at the docks.
In this final cinematic you will see Eivor sailing off almost in secret. Valka is the only one who witnesses Eivor’s departure from England. Before they say their goodbyes, Eivor shares with Valka that all these visions were actually memories. Not Eivor’s personal memories, but the ones of the second hurgr that lives inside them – Odin!
This concludes all of the quests from The Last Chapter story arc in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
But that’s not all for the game. The last bit of story takes us back to the modern time with Basim. If you are like me and barely ever exited the Animus to return to the present, you may now have a large pile of notes, mails and other updates to go through if you want to catch up.
Rewards for completing The Last Chapter
For completing The Last Chapter story you receive a new armor set. This is the same armor set that you see Eivor wearing in all of the five future memories that Basim explores in the different parts of England and Norway with the help of the Memory Fragments.
The new armor set you get is called Jarl of the Raven Clan. It will be placed in your inventory as soon as you return to the Animus and get back to Eivor.
The Armor set, when partially equipped, will boost your Armor and Attack depending on your current Health percentage. If you have the full set equipped, you will also receive additional bonuses to Crit Chance and Crit Damage.
