This is an excellent library of somatic practices. I find issue with appropriation. I have gotten extensive training in yoga, martial arts and eastern healing modalities and many of the practices in here come from ancient wisdom and cultures. This absolutely needs to be acknowledged instead of claimed as a western therapy or modality.

This book is an incredible tool to add to the way I practice. I intuitively already used a lot of skills in this book and never realized what I was doing. I've always had this innate understanding that the body plays such an important role in healing. No wonder people gain a ton of weight after sexual trauma, or why we feel so good after exercise, yoga, dance etc. I was trained in a somatic and attachment focused protocol for EMDR and have been so intrigued to learn more about somatic exercises to incorporate with my clients. I'm so excited to start using this material! This has been on my wishlist for a long time, go ahead and buy it! You won't regret it.

As a dance/movement therapist, my training was heavily focused on integrating the physical, emotional, and mental experiences to help increase awareness and create change for my clients. I found this workbook to be a helpful refresher for similar interventions/techniques I already utilized, but also inspired me to continue to expand and be curious on how I can continue to bring the body and somatic experience into my work.

I also appreciated the way Mischke-Reeds explicitly breaks down how these interventions can be helpful in language that can be easily passed on to clients. I regularly work with clients who may be skeptical or scared to enter into their bodies, and this type of language can help create a foundation of openness and curiosity.

May not be "new" information for those who already work with the body - but I still highly recommend this as a resource for any clinician.

This is a must-read for every clinician out there. This book reminds us just how much of our experience happens in the body and just how unattended the body can be. It is a wonderfully clear, concise and comprehensive guide to using somatic techniques in therapy that can equally benefit a seasoned or a novice clinician. The author shares her tremendously rich experience by offering very practical and concrete ways of how to guide our clients into their own body, help them become aware of inner processes, and how to make this experience safe and meaningful.
